The Team
The Remote Sensing and Geospatial Applications Team at the Ministry of Forests is a highly experienced group with over 20 years of expertise, committed to advancing the forest inventory program through cutting-edge research and technology. Our team is comprised of four members: one Scientific Technical Officer 24, two Scientific Technical Officer 27s, and a Team Lead. We employ remote sensing data and analysis to contribute to significant projects, including lidar forest inventories, mapping annual harvests, and wildfire severity. Collaborating closely with geomatics experts, Licensed Science Officers and other professionals, our team values the diverse skills and expertise that each member brings to their work.
The Role
As a Remote Sensing Specialist, you will provide critical support and expert guidance on remote sensing data and applications to the branch and its partners, contributing significantly to the forest inventory and remote sensing communities across Canada. In collaboration with forest professionals, you will explore and apply the latest remote sensing technologies. The work is dynamic and technology-driven, offering opportunities for professional growth and innovation through ongoing research.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available in Victoria.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established to fill both current and/or future permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
