Desjardins is cutting approximately 400 jobs due to economic concerns and the need to recover from prior investments. The layoffs will primarily affect their offices in Montreal and Levis, Quebec, representing about 0.6% of the workforce. Some reductions will occur through attrition. Desjardins emphasizes prudent management, cost control, and optimizing office space for hybrid work. In June, they laid off 176 people in Montreal. Scotiabank also recently announced 2,700 layoffs (3% of their global workforce) due to economic challenges and cost management. RBC previously cut 1% of staff and plans further reductions to reduce costs.
